• Impaction: Swallowing loose substrate or insects that are too large can cause a blockage. Signs include straining, a swollen belly, or no stool for several days.
• Yellow fungus disease: Crusty yellow or brown skin patches, caused by a fungus called Nannizziopsis, need prompt diagnosis and treatment.
• Parasites: Pinworms and coccidia are common in bearded dragons and can cause weight loss or loose stools.
• Respiratory infections: Open-mouth breathing, bubbles at the nose, or wheezing often point to an enclosure that runs too cool or too humid.
• Egg binding: A female who stops eating and seems restless may be having trouble laying eggs, even if she has not been housed with a male.
• Shedding problems: Retained shed around the toes and tail tip can restrict blood flow if it builds up.

What Happens at a Bearded Dragon Wellness Exam

Your dragon’s visit starts with a weight check and a look at their body condition, skin, eyes, mouth, and limbs. We may recommend a fecal test to screen for parasites, since many beardies carry them without showing signs.

It helps to bring photos of the enclosure, along with the brand and age of the UVB bulb you use. UVB output fades over time even when a bulb still looks bright, so these details help us give you practical advice.
